It is with this in mind that we are pleased to bring you news of Jordanne Whiley, the seven time Grand Slam Champion who is redefining wheelchair tennis and aiming to make the sport much more accessible to those with physical impairments and increase the popularity of the game. Jordanne Whiley’s career so far The impressive 23-year-old not only has a massive seven Grand Slam titles to her name but is also the most decorated British tennis player in history, and is the only ever Brit to win all four Grand Slams in a year. Sport superstar Jordanne is also a Paralympic bronze medal winner and with such an incredible career behind her at such a young age, it came as no surprise that last year Whiley was awarded an MBE for her services to wheelchair tennis. Events to look out for in 2016 Looking ahead, ambitious Whiley shows no sign of slowing down, telling Metro.co.uk about this year’s upcoming paralympics: ‘I would like two gold medals. That’s the aim.’ 2016 also marks a landmark year in Wimbledon history for wheelchair athletes, with the competition hosting the first ever singles format Grand Slam for wheelchair tennis, which Whiley now describes as ‘the right time’ for: ‘The standard of wheelchair tennis is so high that you just can’t not put it in. I think it’s going to be amazing and the public are going to love it.’ Getting involved With wheelchair tennis becoming such a popular sporting event, now is the time for those with disabilities to try their hand at the game, which can be played at any tennis venue with accessible facilities. The rules of the game are the same, the only alteration being that wheelchair players are allowed two bounces of the ball before returning instead of the standard one bounce, which means the game can be played against other wheelchair competitors or non-disabled players alike.   If you’re looking to update or add a tennis facility to your grounds, look no further than Charles Lawrence for a fully comprehensive service, including site visits to establish individual requirements and budgets.
